To mark the 66th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (catastrophe). GUPS UK has organised a candle light vigil – where 66 candles will be lit – representing 66 years of collective punishment of the palestinian people.  Also, on the day – a statement shall be delivered to “Downing street” highlighting the need to put an end to Israel’s racist and ethnic cleansing policies and practices – against the Palestinians – and critically increase pressure on governments to respond to the demands of the Palestinian hunger strikers in its jails.

This year marks the 66th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (catastrophe), when, in 1948, more than 780,000 Palestinians (over half of the population) were ethnically cleansed from their homeland. More than 500 Palestinian villages were depopulated and destroyed. This catastrophe continues to this day, with the ongoing air raids and siege of Gaza, the ever encroaching settlements in the West Bank and the daily humiliations meted out by the Israeli government intent. Internationally, these attacks on the Palestinians are not only supported but celebrated by governments around the world.

Please join us on May 25 to commemorate and remember the Palestinian Nabka and stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their struggle for justice, human rights and self-determination.
