Arab Women Artists Now Festival 2018
1-25 March (London)
Divided World: Plays of Occupation & Dispossession is a collection of plays published by Arts Canteen brims with hope, frustration, humour, pathos or disenchantment and provides performance opportunities for actors of any age and gender.
The repercussions of centuries of interference by Imperial powers in the affairs of the Middle East are with us every day; yet we seem to learn nothing from history.
Divided World brings together the work of passionate and award-winning playwrights with their roots in the Middle East, who, like Hamlet’s ‘players’ are ‘‘abstract and brief chronicles of the time’’, clinically exposing the realities of lives lived under illegal occupation or in the shadow and aftermath of conflict, exploitation and destruction.
Join us for a rehearsed reading with actors Waj Ali, Taghrid Choucair-Vizoso, Lara Sawalha, and Nima Taleghani
Hannah Khalil (Playwright), Kate Al Hadid (Playwright), Hassan Abdulrazzak (Playwright), Dr Kenneth Pickering (Editor)

AWAN showcases the work of contemporary Arab women artists in the UK, Europe and beyond, providing opportunities for artists and audiences to celebrate, be informed and network. It exposes new audiences to the work of these often marginalised artists by providing a platform to present their work.
AWAN is produced by Arts Canteen who, every year, invite different Arab female collaborators to curate and produce the next edition of the festival. It is supported by Arts Council England, Aramex and Rich Mix London
