Brighton & Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign is pleased to be hosting this online meeting in our ‘Brighton-Palestine Connect’ series.
The situation in Masafer Yatta, in the south Hebron hills, has been growing progressively worse over the past few years, and is now at crisis point. Attacks on the established Palestinian rural community, by Israeli military and settlers, has intensified – emboldened by a ruling by the Israeli Supreme Court last year, ratifying the decision to allow the Israeli military to appropriate large areas of Masafer Yatta, with the forcible expulsion of over 1,000 Palestinians. This has been widely described as the largest Israeli ethnic cleansing campaign since 1967, and a possible precursor to wide-scale annexation in the West Bank.
We’ll be joined by Basel Adra, an activist and journalist based in At-Tuwani, in the heart of the Masafer Yatta area. Basel regularly contributes to Mondoweiss and +972 Magazine.
We will also be joined by Joan Neary, who spent three months in Masafer Yatta last year as an international observer with the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI). Joan will contribute her own experiences and perspectives.
