Richmond and Kingston PSC:
Sabra and Shatilla Remembered.
Hear Dr Swee Ang and Fatima Helow recall the appalling 1982 massacres of Palestinians living in the Lebanese refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila, and speak about their aftermath and the situation
in the camps today.
Dr Swee, an orthopaedic surgeon who spent years working with Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, gave evidence to the Israeli Kahan Commission which found that then Israeli Defence Minister Ariel
Sharon bore “personal responsibility” for the slaughter. She is co- founder of British charity Medical Aid for Palestinians.
Fatima Helow is a Palestinian refugee who grew up in Shatila camp and witnessed the massacre. She campaigns to improve conditions in the camps.
