SUMMARY:Birmingham Vigil: Support the Palestinian Prisoners on Hunger Strik
 e!
DESCRIPTION:https://www.facebook.com/events/424069127686004/\n\n\n\n\nLocal
Palestine activists are calling for a solidarity demonstration in Birming
ham to express support for the historic struggle taking place inside Israe
li jails.Palestinian political prisoners incarcerated in Israeli jails hav
e embarked on a historic hunger strike to demand fair treatment and an end
to administrative detention by the Israeli authorities.\nIsrael uses this
policy to detain Palestinians without charge of trial\, which has been de
scribed as “a violation of the principles and standards of due process a
nd fair trial practiced in all democracies. This is what you teach young l
awyers. Israel ignores this. It brings administrative detention orders to
a military court that follow military law. The evidence is secret. The cou
rt rubber-stamps the order. It is arbitrary detention” says Shawan Jabar
in\, recently-appointed commissioner to the International Commission of Ju
rists.\n\nA Palestinian rights organization profiled Sunday eight politica
l prisoners from the occupied West Bank currently on hunger strike.\n\nSix
of the hunger strikers are protesting Israeli administrative detention or
ders against them. Prisoner support group Addameer provided information ab
 out the hunger strikers in a 10 March statement.\n\nSamer al-Barq\, 38 yea
rs old\, from the town of Jayyous near Qalqilia started an open hunger str
ike on 27 February to protest the 24 February renewal of a three-month adm
inistrative detention order. This is al-Barq’s third hunger strike in th
 e past two years.\n\nAyman Sharawna\, 36 years old\, from Dura\, near Hebr
on had been released in the October 2011 prisoner exchange deal. Sharawna
started his hunger strike on 1 July 2012 to protest being rearrested by Is
rael under Article 186 of Military Order 1651\, which allows a special mil
itary commission to “cancel the early release.”\n\nSamer al-Issawi\, 3
3 years old\, from Issawiya\, Jerusalem was also released as part of the O
ctober 2011 prisoner exchange deal. Following his rearrest on 7 July 2012\
, Issawi has been on intermittent hunger strike for over 200 days to prote
st his arbitrary rearrest.\n\nYounis al-Hroub\, 31 years old\, from Hebron
has been on hunger strike for 22 days to protest his administrative deten
tion.\nMuhammad Ahmad an-Najjar from Hebron has been on hunger strike for
152 days which he announced on 26 February to protest his administrative d
etention.\n\nZakariyah al-Heeh\, 26 years old\, from Hebron has been detai
ned since 26 November 2012. He has been on hunger strike for 14 days.\n\nI
brahim Al-Sheikh Khalil from Jericho has been on hunger strike for 12 days
since he announced his strike on 27 February 2013 to protest his administ
rative detention. He is currently in Ofer Prison in the occupied West Bank
 .\n\nHazem Al-Tawil from Al-Khalil was detained on 19 February 2013 and we
nt on hunger strike the following day to protest his administrative detent
ion. He is on hunger strike for 19 days and is held in Ofer prison in the
occupied West Bank.\n\nWe will gather to call for solidarity with those hu
nger-striking inside Israeli prisons\, and to support the call for Palesti
nian rights that these prisoners are bravely fighting for\, against the ra
cist Israeli colonisation of their land and people.\n\nFor more informatio
n on the situation with the hunger strike and Palestinian rights\, please
