SUMMARY:Writing Palestine: a talk in Frome
DESCRIPTION:"Being Palestinian isn't simply about nationalism\; it can't be
"\, says Jean Said Makdisi. "You have to have a sense of justice for every
body." Jean is one of twenty-five authors to have written books about Pale
stine in English over the past year. That's a lot of books\, and a measure
of the surging interest in Palestine and its occupation in the English sp
eaking world.\n\nWell-known Frome figure Peter Clark was one of a panel of
judges chosen to select the "Best Book on Palestine 2012/2013" for a priz
e awarded by the Middle Eastern Monitor (MEMO). Peter\, an expert on Middl
e Eastern literature and a founding trustee of the International prize for
Arab Fiction\, will be talking about new writing in Palestine for Frome F
riends of Palestine on Thursday December 5th.
