Israel’s genocidal attacks, its occupation, and its system of institutionalised racist discrimination against Palestinians, amounting to the crime against humanity of apartheid, can only be sustained because of weapons, technology and other support it receives from companies around the world.
PSC’s research has found that UK Universities collectively invest millions in companies complicit in Israeli violations of international law – their total complicit investment is:
£456,505,035.63 Invested in complicit companies
Find your university here to see what investments it has in companies that are involved in the grave breaches of international law carried out by the Israeli government towards the Palestinians.
Frequently Asked Questions
*Why do we link the university’s ethical investment policy?Students at some universities have successfully campaigned to amend their university’s ethical investment policy to include a line which commits the university to not investing “directly or indirectly through owning shares or through pools, trackers, or through investment in funds, in companies complicit in violations of human rights (e.g.
none of the 112 business entities included in the United Nations Human Rights Council report into business activity in Israel’s settlements, (A/HRC/43/71 found here: https://www.un.org/unispal/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/A.HRC_.43.71-1.pdf)”.
This means the university will not in the future be able to invest in complicit companies. Usually this is more of an ‘internal track’ campaign, so it helps if you have a good
relationship with your SU, or this is something they want to push internally with the university. Get in touch to find out more.
Direct investment is money that the university directly holds in a complicit company.
They have a direct relationship with that company.
Indirect investment is when the university invests money through funds and trackers which then invest that money in complicit companies. The university usually does not
choose where those investments are made, but they should ensure that even their indirect investments are not complicit. The majority of complicit university investment
is indirect, and it is very important not to let university management use indirect investment as an excuse for not taking action: it’s still their money going into companies
complicit in apartheid.
We send Freedom of Information requests to universities every two years. Unfortunately, many universities refuse to give us the information we need to work out their complicit investments. If your university is blank on the database, it’s likely that they didn’t provide us with this information.
You might have more success with Freedom of Information requests than we did, as a student at this university. Get in touch if you would like to see the FOI we send, or if you have more up-to date information on your university.

You could campaign for your SU to stop banking with Barclays, or for students at your university to boycott Barclays. You could also get in touch with your local PSC branch to see what they are organising around in your area. Check out our page https://palestinecampaign.org/campaigns/apartheid-off-campus/ for more ideas and resources!
Some universities refuse to provide us with a breakdown of their investments. For many of these, we list information about complicit non-financial ties. If your university is listed with no information get in touch and we can help you research for more information.
The total complicity figure is an estimate calculated with the information universities provide us with. We update the database every two years.
