Over 200 Coventry University academics, staff, and students have written to the university to ask CAF to end their role in operating the Jerusalem Light Rail.
CAF Rail UK is headquartered in Coventry University Technology Park.
The letter asks the university to ask CAF to end its role in operating the Jerusalem Light Rail. If adequate assurances are not given, the letter asks the university to seek to terminate all business relationships with the company.
The Basque transport conglomerate has come under huge pressure from an international campaign demanding it ends its role in the project, which serves illegal Israeli settlements in and around East Jerusalem, therefore serving to cement
Israel’s grip on occupied Palestinian land.
Earlier this year 30 prominent human rights organisations, including Amnesty International Spain, requested they be added to the UN database of business enterprises active in Israel’s illegal settlements.
