Birmingham City Council’s largest single contract is with Veolia and is due to expire in 2019. Birmingham tax payers contribute to the revenues of the company that a recent UN report identifies out as a major violator of international law in its engagements in various projects on behalf of the Israeli occupation. The workshop will be an opportunity for you to take part in working out an action plan to challenge the City Council’s position ofcontinuing with the contract. We will discuss various tactics, strategies and actions we need to take to ensure Veolia is no longer in receipt of our monies and continue to operate in Palestine to help Israel maintain its illegal occupation. Palestine Solidarity Movement Successes against Veolia in UK

In West Midlands, Sandwell Veolia failed to reach the shortlist for the Sandwell contract for waste management.

The cities of Edinburgh, Richmond, Portsmouth, Winchester, East Hants, South London Waste Management Partnership and the London Borough of  Ealing have all ended contracts with Veolia after vigorous local campaigns by various chapters of the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign. In December 2012 Veolia dropped its bid for the North London Waste Authority Management contract after protests about its activities in Palestine.
