The British Council in conjunction with the BFI would like to invite you to the Palestinian Cinema event, Wednesday 4th June, 2pm – 6:30om at the BFI Southbank.
A co-production treaty has been in place between the UK and the Occupied Palestinian Territories since July 2012. It offers significant opportunities for Palestinian producers and directors, and also for British producers given the new profile of Palestinian Cinema on the international stage with recent acclaimed films including Hany Abu Assad’s Omar (Cannes 2013, Un Certain Regard) and Annemarie Jacir’s When I Saw You (Berlin 2013, Panorama).
This event will explore the creative possibilities and challenges of working in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, with speakers including the Palestinian Minister of Culture, His Excellency Dr Anwar Abu Eisheh, BFI Head of International, Isabel Davis, director, Annemarie Jacir and double Academy Award nominee, Hany Abu Assad. Sessions will be followed by drinks and networking.
The event is followed by a special screening of Academy Award® nominated OMAR by Hany Abu Assad following the event at 6.30pm at the BFI Southbank. We have a limited number of free tickets for the screening available to event participants on a first come first served basis.
