An open letter calling on David Cameron to halt Britain’s arms trade with Israel will be delivered to Downing Street tomorrow by MPs and Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC).
MPs including Jeremy Corbyn and Caroline Lucas are among the signatories condemning Israel’s massacre in Gaza and calling for an immediate arms embargo on Israel.
Other signatories include authors William Dalrymple, Victoria Brittain and
Ahdaf Soueif, author and comedian Alexei Sayle, academics Dr Ghada Karmi and Professor Steven Rose, Rev Canon Garth Hewitt (Amos Trust), Bruce Kent, Baroness Jenny Tonge, and Chair of PSC, Hugh Lanning.
More than 17,000 members of the public have also signed the letter.
Hugh Lanning said: “Israel is in violation of international law with its attack on the civilian population of Gaza. Our government must respond appropriately and impose sanctions, in particular an arms embargo, unless it ends this bloody campaign of collective punishment against the Palestinian people.”
PSC and other organisations have called a march and rally in London on Saturday (26th July), which will also demand an end to the arms trade with Israel.
Protesters will gather at the Israeli embassy, Kensington, at midday and march to Parliament. Speakers including children’s author and poet, Michael Rosen, comedian Jeremy Hardy and guitarist and music producer Dave Randall, will be among those addressing the rally at Parliament at 2.30pm
Last Saturday (19th July), tens of thousands marched from Whitehall to the Israeli embassy in protest at the massacre in Gaza.
