The Palestine Coalition in the UK will take part in the upcoming global Day of Action for Gaza, coinciding with the 76th anniversary of the Nakba from May 17th to 19th, 2024. This significant mobilisation, expected to span hundreds of cities in dozens of countries across all six continents, symbolises a powerful rejection of ongoing atrocities and a fervent plea for an immediate halt to hostilities in Rafah.

In London, hundreds of thousands are predicted to march in what will be the 14th national march since October, on Saturday 18th May starting at BBC Portland Place and marching to Whitehall, calling for a ceasefire to end the genocide in Gaza. They will also call for an end to the complicity of the UK government, public bodies and companies in Israel’s violation of international law and the rights of Palestinians.

This will be the 3rd global Day of Action since October and comes at a moment when Israel is planning a full invasion of Rafah despite warnings from the UN and all relevant aid agencies. The UN reports that an attack on Rafah would cut off all aid into Gaza while there is a full-blown famine in the north of the strip and where the 1.4 million Palestinians sheltering in Rafah are facing catastrophic hunger.

The global Day of Action marks the 76th anniversary of the Nakba, the act of mass ethnic cleansing undertaken by Zionist forces to establish the state of Israel. It saw over 750,000 Palestinians expelled and over 500 Palestinian towns and villages destroyed.

The global Day of Action is the latest demonstration of global solidarity with Gaza and takes place at a moment when thousands of students are encamped in universities across the world, calling for divestment from companies complicit in the Israeli state’s actions.

We call for an end to the genocide, sanctions including an end to all arms sales to Israel, and for Israel to be held accountable for its illegal actions though the International Criminal Court.

The Palestine Coalition reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian cause, until the occupation is ended, apartheid is dismantled, and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and return are realised.
