On Wednesday 17thApril people across Britain will protest against local contracts with G4S because of their involvement in human rights violations (see information below). Local residents will hand out leaflets detailing how G4S profits from Israel’s illegal detention and torture of Palestinians including children. The 17thApril is the global day of solidarity with Palestinian prisoners. Currently over 4,743 Palestinians are  detained by Israel; 10 of them women, 193 of them children, and 178 of them held under administrative detention, a policy that Israel uses to hold Palestinians on secret information indefinitely without charging them or allowing them to stand trial.G4S provide:

  • Services for the Ketziot and Megiddo prisons in Israel to which Palestinians are transferred out of occupied Palestinian territory into Israel in breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention
  • The central command room at Israel’s Ofer prison in illegally occupied West Bank (part of Palestine)
  •  Systems at Israel’s Kishon and Jerusalem detention centres where there is evidence that Palestinians are tortured

PSC Director, Sarah Colborne said:

“Palestinians have called for people of conscience across the world to support boycott, disinvestment and sanctions against companies like G4S that profit from Israel’s occupation, and support Israel’s breaches of international law.

Protests are taking place across the country today against G4S’ involvement in the incarceration of Palestinians inside Israeli jails. Palestinian child prisoners are held at G4S-equipped Israeli prisons, where there is evidence of beatings, torture and forced confessions. We are insisting that G4S must stop profiting from Israel’s illegal detention of Palestinians. Until G4S withdraw from contacts in Israel’s prisons, Israel’s checkpoints and Israel’s illegal settlements they should be barred from public contracts.”
