Richard Falk’s final report details Israel’s Apartheid and calls for a ban on settlement goods
“Through prolonged occupation, with practices and policies which appear to constitute apartheid and segregation, ongoing expansion of settlements, and continual construction of the wall arguably amounting to de facto annexation of parts of the occupied Palestinian territory, the denial by Israel of the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people is evident,” writes Richard Falk, in his final report as the UN special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territory.
His report calls for the EU and US to back up their policies on the illegality of settlements with firm action, for example the blocking of settlement goods from being sold in the EU and US.
This week also saw the passing of another racist Bill in the Knesset (the Israeli Parliament), which the Bill’s sponsor says aims to “distinguish between Muslim and Christian Arab citizens and to heighten involvement of Christians in Israeli society.”
Jibril Rajoub, chairman of the Palestinian Football Association, has said they will seek the expulsion of Israel from FIFA at the next FIFA Congress, and that he has the support of other Arab and North African nations.Palestine has been demanding that Israeli security forces ease the travel restrictions on footballers and officials attending matches, and in some cases even training development sessions.
On Thursday 20 February 2014 the Red Card Israeli Racism campaign launched a petition to FIFA saying:
“Membership of the Israeli Football Association (IFA) should be suspended until Israel respects the human rights of Palestinians and observes international law, thus enabling Palestinian footballers to play and compete nationally and internationally”
