On Thursday 20 February 2014 the Red Card Israeli Racism campaign launched a petition to FIFA saying:

“Membership of the Israeli Football Association (IFA) should be suspended until Israel respects the human rights of Palestinians and observes international law, thus enabling Palestinian footballers to play and compete nationally and internationally”

During the apartheid era in South Africa, from 1964 to 1992, the South African FA was excluded from FIFA membership. Why then is the IFA still a member?
