CALL OUT for Saturday 5 May – continuing our solidarity with The Great March of Return in Gaza
Once again we’re calling on all our members and supporters to join us on Saturday to show solidarity with the people of Gaza on their Great March of Return. Thanks to all of you who have taken part since the Great March started in late March.
Last Friday (27 April) Ma’an News reported Israeli army forces killed three Palestinian protesters and left more than six-hundred injured in another deadly day of demonstrations on the Gaza border. Of the 611 injured, 154 were struck by live ammunition from Israeli forces, according to Gaza’s health ministry. The demonstrations have left a total of 45 Palestinians dead, with a reported 5,500 injured. There have been no reports of Israeli fatalities.
Israel’s response to the demonstrators has come under fierce criticism from the UN Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein, who called for into question the Israeli army’s use of “excessive force”, adding that Israel should be held to account. But the UK government remains silent – its refusal to condemn the killings is tantamount to a full endorsement of war crimes.
Together with supporters of the Palestinians all over the world, we will stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza on Saturday, for a vigil and demonstration at the Clock Tower starting at 12 noon. We need a really strong turnout on Saturday to get the message across.
Let’s make Saturday a tremendous show of support for the Palestinians – see you at the Clock Tower at 12 noon
