“Being Palestinian isn’t simply about nationalism; it can’t be”, says Jean Said Makdisi. “You have to have a sense of justice for everybody.” Jean is one of twenty-five authors to have written books about Palestine in English over the past year. Well-known Frome figure Peter Clark was one of a panel of judges chosen to select the “Best Book on Palestine 2012/2013” for a prize awarded by the Middle Eastern Monitor (MEMO). Peter, an expert on Middle Eastern literature and a founding trustee of the International prize for Arab Fiction, will be talking about new writing in Palestine for Frome Friends of Palestine on Thursday December 5th.
