Help support Palestinian human rights – join PSC today
PSC has coordinated a letter from six Parliamentarians from three political parties urging the Egyptian Ambassador to halt Egypt’s destruction of tunnels until they have secured access via the official crossings that are able to meet demand within Gaza.
MPs Jeremy Corbyn, Mark Durkan, Sir Bob Russell, Andy Slaughter and Sarah Teather, along with independent Peer, Baroness Jenny Tonge, have written to the Egyptian Ambassador to express their alarm at the deteriorating situation.
Jeremy Corbyn MP said “By destroying the tunnels whilst closing the crossings, the Egyptian authorities are helping to make an already dire humanitarian disaster even worse. The people living in the occupied Palestinian territory of Gaza, are just normal people trying to live their lives and being stopped at every time by their occupier and their occupier’s neighbour.”
The PSC walk is this Sunday! Don’t miss out – sign up today! The deadline is 3pm Friday to take part, and the cost only £20 per walker.
If you can’t join the walk yourself, why not sponsor someone else who is taking part? The walk is to raise vital funds for the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. We rely on funding from our members and supporters to carry out our work, and all money will be used towards our campaigning activities.
Sodastream at the London Design Festival!
Sodastream are launching their new kitchen appliance ‘Play’, which will be presented at designjunction during London Design Festival between 19-22 September. PSC has written to designjunction to urge them to stop partnering with Sodastream. Please urgently tell designjunction why they shouldn’t be working with a company that operates on stolen Palestinian land: https://www.facebook.com/designjunctionevent.
We hope that designjunction will listen to the concerns of those who support human rights and international law, and not block people from calling on them to take an ethical stance.
Get ready for the 28th! Protests are being planned around the country for a day of action on Saturday 28 September against Sodastream locating its main factory in an illegal settlement. Our next e-update will have further details.
PSC at the TUC
Owen Jones at TUC
A host of TUC general secretaries and delegates, as well as Owen Jones, all came to the PSC stall at the Trades Union Congress this week. Palestinian footballer Mahmoud Sarsak, who was imprisoned for 3 years and went on a hunger strike for 3 months to secure his freedom, spoke at the PSC fringe meeting alongside speakers representing Unite, Unison and NUT.
The latest ASLEF journal has a fascinating reportback of the visit of ASLEF delegates on the latest PSC trade union delegation – the article also looks at the history of rail in Palestine and the Middle East and how was used as a tool for war and politics – then and now.
