PSC applauds BBC decision to award security contract to G4S rival
Palestine Solidarity Campaign has welcomed the BBC’s decision not to award its security contract, worth £80 million, to G4S. PSC has campaigned since July 2013, urging the BBC to reject any bid by G4S, the firm which provides security services to Israeli prisons.
PSC’s campaign resulted in more than 2000 viewers and listeners urging the BBC not to award G4S with a contract because of its involvement in human rights abuses in Israel’s prisons. PSC’s tweets urging the BBC to break its links with G4S were shared more than 600 times.

Last year the Government issued guidelines warning companies of the reputational, legal and economic risks of doing business with Israel’s occupation. Take action online and urge your MP to press the British Government to share their business advice with British businesses, like G4S.
Outrage at Prime Minister’s Speech to Israeli MPs
On Wednesday 12th March 2014, the British Prime Minister made an outrageously biased speech to Israel’s Parliament, the Knesset. He failed to talk about Israel’s flagrant breaches of international law and their illegal occupation of Palestinian land. He failed to condemn the seven year blockade on Gaza. He negated the discrimination and racism faced by Palestinian citizens of Israel by falsely claiming that all Israeli citizens have equality, regardless of religion.
Tony Benn, PSC patron and strong supporter of the Palestinian people, died last week aged 88. He was the longest serving Labour MP in history and was an inspiration to us and to all who struggle for peace and justice worldwide.
Tony Benn was also in favour of a boycott of Israeli goods and encouraged Britain in 2002 to support this strategy by stopping all arms sales to Israel, introducing trade sanctions and a ban on all investment.
Israeli politician, Tzipi Livni, will be speaking at a Jewish National Fund event on the evening of Thursday 15th May (location to be confirmed). This is the day when Palestinians mourn their losses – of loved ones, land, homes and country – which began in 1948 and continue until today.
Put the evening of Thursday 15th May in your diary and please help us protest against Livni’s visit. Livni was one of the architects of the Israeli attack on Gaza 2008/09 which led to the deaths of 1,417 Palestinians – 313 of them children – and injured 5,303.
Perhaps Livni should also take note of Israel’s former Navy Commander General Eliezer Marom, who it appears was forced to flee the UK when an arrest warrant was issued against him in October last year.
Tell Livni that war criminals are not welcome in Britain.
‘Education under Occupation’ – PSC speaker event
Saji Darwish was an 18-year-old student at Birzeit University in the West Bank. Last week, he was shot dead by Israeli soldiers. Thousands attended his funeral procession at the university on Tuesday.
On 1st April, in London, PSC and Birzeit University’s Right to Education team will be hosting three Palestinian students who will be speaking about the difficulties of studying under Israeli occupation.
